2025 Suppressor and NFA Updates
What the Big Beautiful Bill Does for Suppressors
Yes, the Big Beautiful Bill has officially passed as of July 2025, which brings a lot of changes to NFA items. What does that mean for suppressors? Some say it means that suppressors no longer need a tax stamp, but is that the truth?
Our team at Next Level Armament is here to clear things up.
How to Acquire a Suppressor in 2025

Nothing has changed yet regarding the process for acquiring a suppressor; sorry to the people who thought you’d be able to just walk into a store and buy one. These attachments are still NFA items, unlike other products such as holsters or ammunition.
However, the $200 tax stamp will no longer be $200, so you can save yourself a few dollars there when outfitting your favorite firearm!
In order to process an order for a suppressor, we need a copy of the FFL and SOT of your chosen dealer so we can file the paperwork to obtain approval to ship your order to them. You will still have to complete a Form 4 with your dealer once they have your suppressor. We do not handle tax stamps in any way. Those are sent in with your Form 4s at the time you apply for transfer to yourself or your trust.
So, What did the Big Beautiful Bill do?
The team at Next Level Armament has received multiple questions regarding suppressors and the NFA. There seems to be a bunch of confusion on what the current law is, what is changing, and what needs to be done to complete an order. In short, as stated above, nothing has changed in the transfer requirements as of today.
Here is a brief summary of where things stand at this particular moment:
- The House version of the “Big Beautiful Bill” removed suppressors from the NFA (including the tax stamp requirement). Suppressors would still be bound by the standard ATF firearms transfer laws, i.e. an FFL is still required, a background check and Form 4473 would still need to be completed.
- The Senate version of the “Big Beautiful Bill” did not remove suppressors from the NFA, but eliminated the tax stamp requirement.
- President Trump signed the combined/revised version into law July 4th. The final version will eliminate the tax stamp, but it did not remove suppressors or SBRs from the NFA list. They are saying the tax will remain in effect until January 1, 2026. There is a push to move that date ahead, however, as of now, the tax remains in effect until January 1, 2026.
GOA and other Pro 2A companies filed a lawsuit against congress this past weekend, claiming that keeping the suppressors in the NFA is creating an illegal registry since the tax has been removed. As of today, we are not aware of any response or hearing dates scheduled.
Wrap UP
So in summary, as of now, nothing has changed yet regarding the requirements for shipping and transferring a suppressor. If you ordered a suppressor, please make sure you contact the FFL/SOT dealer you will be using for transfer and have them send us copies so we can process your order. They can be emailed to [email protected], or [email protected]. We currently have a table full of orders with no transfer information to go with them, so we cannot process the orders or obtain approval to ship them until we have that information.Â
Thank you for those of you who already sent the required information. We are working diligently to get your orders out as soon as we receive approval from the NFA division of the ATF.
Thank You ALL!
